Precision Silica Sol Casting Parts
Precision Silica Sol Casting Parts
Precision silica sol casting parts are made by silica sol casting process.Silica sol process is a precision casting technology, mainly used to produce high-precision, complex shape metal parts. It is a kind of "lost wax casting", but the use of silica sol as the mold material, rather than the traditional paraffin or other materials. This technology is particularly suitable for the manufacture of small and medium-sized parts with precise dimensions and high surface finish.
The basic steps of the silica sol process include several key stages
Model making: First, a model is designed according to the part that needs to be produced, usually made using a fusible material such as paraffin or plastic.
Coated with silica sol: The prepared model is immersed in silica sol solution, which will form a thin film on the surface of the model. The model needs to be repeated several times, each time allowing the previous layer of silica sol film to dry and cure until a sufficient thickness of the shell is formed.
Dewaxing and sintering: The model coated with silica sol is heated so that the internal paraffin model melts and flows out, leaving a hollow silica sol shell. Subsequently, the silica sol shell is sintered and hardened by continued heating to form a strong mold shell.
Metal pouring: The molten metal is poured into the preheated silica sol mold shell, and the metal solidifies after cooling.
Hulling and post-treatment: When the metal is completely cooled and cured, break the silica sol shell, remove the cast parts, and carry out the necessary post-treatment, such as cutting, grinding and polishing.

Why Silica Sol for Investment Casting?
Silica sol is a milky colloid consisting of tiny grains (10-20micrometer) that have relatively large surface area, meaning they don't alter the natural colors of materials being covered by them. Silica sol is compatible with water but not organic solvents for use. Silica sol can dissolve in solutions of alcohol or water in any ratio, with particular advantages when mixed. Due to its low viscosity, silica sol soaks up water puddles where other materials cannot, creating excellent dispersion and permeability when mixed with other substances. Silica sol can serve as an effective molding adhesive for stainless steel investment casting when its moisture has been completely removed, leaving colloid grains adhered securely to material surfaces and silicon oxide crystals between grains forming an effective bond between grains; that is its main purpose as an investment casting molding adhesive.
Silica sol castings are commonly utilized to produce products with superior corrosion resistance and precise dimensions, since silica sol steel casting can produce superior surface quality and less geometrical deviation. We have produced various silica sol steel castings such as meat grinder parts, valve castings, pump castings, marine hardware, furniture decoration pieces etc. Our portfolio includes meat grinder parts, valve castings, pump castings and furniture decoration pieces etc.
The main advantage of the silica sol process is its ability to produce precision silica sol casting parts with high precision, good surface finish and rich detail, making it ideal for the manufacture of complex shapes and fine detail parts. At the same time, it is suitable for a variety of metal materials, including stainless steel, alloy steel, copper alloy, etc., which is adaptable and can meet the specific needs of different industries. Through the precision silica sol casting process, the dimensional accuracy of precision silica sol casting parts is high, reducing the need for subsequent processing, while improving production efficiency and material utilization, providing high-quality casting solutions for aerospace, medical devices, precision instruments and other fields.
